Explore the great outdoors and Newark’s Civil War defences in this historic park…

This historic park is Newark’s largest open space and is home to one of the country’s finest remaining Civil War earthwork fortifications – the Queen’s Sconce.

Visitors can uncover the many stories surrounding this internationally important heritage feature.  Also, enjoy the beautiful wildlife along the river and within the large areas of open pasture, woodland and nature reserve. With a network of pathways suitable for wheelchair users, everyone can explore the rich biodiversity of the park. Look up to the tall oaks, see butterflies and dragonflies in abundance or try to spot the diverse range of birds including kingfishers, swans and thrushes.

The children’s play area and wooden Civil War sculptures make this the ideal spot for families.

For those feeling energetic, the park also houses a football centre, fitness trail and hosts a weekly Parkrun.

Finish off your visit with a drink or bite to eat at Rumbles Café.
